On day in 1977, as they were walking in what was then a field on his family estate near the town of Fontanellato, the Italian publisher and collector Franco Maria Ricci turned to his friend Jorge Luis Borges and informed him that sooner or later he was going to build a maze here, ‘the biggest maze in the world’.
